Grand Assembly & the collections at Bohusläns Museum

2020

I was invited to the regional museum of Bohuslän to explore and curate an exhibition based on their collections. For a year I regularly returned to explore and research the extensive collections of the museum together with the museums head antiquarian. I chose objects spanning almost a thousand years in time and from across the globe. Accompanying this installation of artifacts I made a first version of the Grand Assembly works based on my digital treasure chest – the blog liverodland.tumblr.com. The two companion installations where shown in adjoining rooms and I also made a series of drawing collages on the subject of collecting to tie the two rooms together. Both installations used a sort of of kaleidoscopic wunderkammer layouts, much like three dimensional mindmaps. Colours, construction and aesthetics in both rooms was used in a similar way in order to highlight the relation between the different ways of approaching collections.
